Equipment and Safety
All versions had very good safety features such as ABS brakes, side air bags for the front seats and side curtain airbags. All Civics with the exception of the Si, had a four-cylinder 1.8-liter with 140 horsepower along with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The automatic 5-speed was optional. The Civic Si had a 2.0 liter 197 horsepower with a 6-speed transmission with low ratios.
The Civic GX had a 1.8-liter with 113 horsepower that used compressed natural gas. The hybrid had a 1.3-liter gasoline and an electric motor of 20 horsepower for a total of 110 horsepower. The hybrid was the only one who had a CVT transmission and had an estimated fuel consumption of 40 mpg within the city and 45 mpg on highway.
The Civic coupe was tuned in order to feel sportier than the sedan, but both are fun to drive thanks to its fast steering and great dynamic behavior. The 1.8-liter engine will not surprise anyone, but it has enough power for a car that is handled every day. The hybrid has very good consumption and the GX is incredibly clean, but both have the same problem, its acceleration is slow.
